How to play4

Before you start

Seat players at a table with a full bowl of candies and an empty bowl side by side. Chopsticks stay on the table until go.

  1. 1Use only the chopsticks, held in one hand.
  2. 2Move one candy at a time from the full bowl to the empty one.
  3. 3Candies that drop on the table are dead — they don't count.
  4. 4Most candies in the second bowl after 60 seconds wins.
What to say3
  1. 1“Chopsticks only — one candy at a time!”
  2. 2“Steady… steady… don't drop it!”
  3. 3“Time! Chopsticks down — let's count!”
Host tips3
  • Some guests use chopsticks every day and win easily. Either run it with the weak hand, or give the wins to a different skill in the next round so nobody feels the deck was stacked.
  • Round candies roll everywhere. Jelly beans and wrapped candies are easier to grip and easier to count.
  • Great for seniors and anyone who can't run around — invite them first.
Variants2
  • Mixed bag

Mix in dried beans or peanuts in their shells for different grip difficulty — only candy counts.

  • Weak hand

Players must use the hand they don't write with. Evens out the chopstick experts.

Safety2
  • Food allergies: check for nuts, dairy, gelatin and soy in the candy; use wrapped candies so nobody eats a piece that's been handled.
  • Small candies are a choking risk for under-5s — keep them out of reach of toddlers watching.
