How to play4

Before you start

Arrange the chairs in a circle facing in, one fewer than the number of players. One player stands in the middle.

  1. 1The player in the middle says “The big wind blows for anyone who…” plus something true about themselves: “…has a younger sister.”
  2. 2Everyone it applies to must leave their seat and find a new one, not the seat right next to them.
  3. 3The middle player also races for a seat. Whoever is left standing becomes the new caller.
  4. 4Anyone stuck in the middle three times does a small forfeit, then play carries on.

What to say3
  1. 1“The big wind blows for anyone who… had rice for breakfast!”
  2. 2“Move, move! Not the chair next to you!”
  3. 3“You're in the middle — what's true about you?”
Host tips3
  • The same people get stuck in the middle and run out of ideas. Post a few prompts on a card or the screen they can read from.
  • Players dive for chairs and tip them over. Use heavy, armless chairs and rule that you sit, not slide, into a seat.
  • Callers sometimes pick prompts that single someone out (“anyone who's single”). Set the rule: only facts about yourself, nothing about looks or relationships.
Variants2
  • Fruit basket

Give every player a fruit name. The caller names a fruit and those players swap; “fruit basket!” means everyone moves.

  • Hurricane

The caller can shout “Hurricane!” and every single player must change seats.

Safety2
  • Chair-diving tips chairs and causes falls — no folding chairs or chairs with wheels.
  • Not suited to seniors or pregnant guests; give them the caller or judge role instead.
