Before you start
Walk the space and agree which raised spots count as 'langit' (heaven): low steps, benches, curbs, sturdy crates. Remove or rule out anything wobbly or higher than knee height. Pick the first 'it' with a counting rhyme.
- 1The 'it' chases everyone; players are only safe while standing on a langit spot.
- 2The 'it' counts out loud to 10. Everyone must leave their spot and move to a different one before the count ends.
- 3A player tagged on the ground (lupa) becomes the new 'it'.
- 4Players may not return to the spot they just left, and the 'it' may not wait right next to one spot.
What to say3
- 1“Everyone up on a langit — the ground is lava… I mean, lupa!”
- 2“Taya is counting: one, two, three… MOVE!”
- 3“Caught on the ground — you're the new taya!”
Host tips3
- Kids find one spot and never leave. The count-and-move rule is essential; enforce it from the first round or the game dies.
- Kids climb tables, railings and plant boxes to be 'safe'. Walk the space first and name the allowed langit spots out loud — anything not named is lupa.
- Fast kids get bored and slow kids stay 'it' forever. Rotate 'it' every 3 minutes no matter what.
Variants2
Indoor tiles
In a hall, use paper sheets or carpet squares taped to the floor as langit instead of raised spots.
Two taggers
For 12+ players, have two 'its' at once so the game doesn't stall.
Safety3
- Falls from raised spots are the main risk: only use knee-height, stable surfaces.
- Ban chairs with wheels, tables, railings and anything glass.
- Light touch tags only; no pushing someone off a langit spot.
